Photographed on Film in 2013 with a composition very much influenced by one of Bobby’s favorite photographic artists - Andreas Gursky (a grid-like arrangement t from an elevated viewpoint) - New York represents Bobby’s first view of the city. Having arrived in the city after midnight, Bobby had already arranged to photograph from this vantage point after finding it via Google Earth. A few hours later Bobby watched from the rooftop on the Lower East Side as dawn revealed what felt like the center of the universe. After spending the morning on location, Bobby decided that the story of the scene would be more ideal under the low light of the setting sun, so he returned again that evening with the Fuji 617 Panoramic Film Camera.

Dream-like clouds form over the Manhattan skyline on an evening in early fall. In the foreground lies Manhattan's largest public housing project juxtaposed against the iconic towers of Midtown on the horizon. The low light of the setting sun carves a maze of contrast highlighting the visual rags-to-riches journey from projects to penthouses. A private rooftop looking due north from the Lower East Side offers a never-before-photographed perspective ripe with a sense of cultural and historical gravity, revealing the essence of one of the world’s most iconic cities. The poorest of poor, the richest of rich, and everything in between. 12 Million shades of grey in a conglomeration of texture, shape, and form, the grit and the glamour, a city never sleeping, but full of dreams. And a world of opportunity awaits those with the vision and unwavering resolve to rise from the shadows and make their mark on the world. Live Inspired.
