The Temple Crag and the 14k-foot Palisade Peaks define the Sierra Nevada Skyline above a series of surreal, emerald, glacier-fed lakes on an awe-inspiring final evening of a three-day trek with my daughter into the Big Pine Lakes Basin. No lions, tigers, or bears, and no wizard at the end to fix all of life’s problems, but we rose to a challenge, faced a few of our demons along the way, and saw incredible things that helped us to return with better perspective. And after several days of eating dry-pack meals, there truly is no place like home.
