Wine and Art | Bobby Certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers

On March 6th, 2019 Bobby was awarded his level 2 Sommelier Certification by the Court of Master Sommeliers - the world’s foremost authority in the world of wine - after passing the grueling 3-part exam which includes a blind tasting as well as tests in theory and service. As a long-time connoisseur and student of wine inspired by the passion and professionalism so prominent among those who’ve moved through the rankings in the Court of Master Sommeliers, Bobby began a self-guided pursuit of his certification early in 2018 and spent the month of July in Napa and Sonoma, California photographing wine country and immersing himself in the heart of American wine culture.

“The mantra at the gallery is ‘Live Inspired’ and is aimed at cultivating a life-style of surrounding ourselves with things that constantly push us forward towards the best version of ourselves. There are no real courses or blueprints for passing this exam. It is a self-guided, how-bad-do-you-want-it, education through the history, geography, science, business, etc. of anything and everthing in the wine world - an art form that has been cultivated for nearly 10,000 years. Passing this exam for me was an about getting out of my comfort zone with daily dedication to the achievement of a goal that at one point seemed impossible.”

We look forward to popping a cork or two with our patrons this spring! Live Inspired.

Vintage Update | Over half the edition of 18 have Sold

Since its release last October, Vintage-Bobby’s image of an historic Napa Valley wine cellar has become a favorite with more than half the edition now sold. The piece has been a beautiful addition to some of the most state of the art wine cellars in the finest homes here in Las Vegas. Visit the gallery soon to experience this work in person.  Live Inspired.™

Horizon Update | 9 of the Edition of 11 Have Sold

In less than a month's time on view in the gallery,  Horizon is nearly halfway sold through with 9 of the allotted 11 enlargements now spoken for.  Visit the gallery soon to experience this work in person.  Live Inspired.™

New Release | Horizon Now on View in the Gallery

Stop by our Downtown Summerlin Gallery and enjoy the holiday festivities as well as some time spent with the gallery's stunning piece.

Horizon | This single exposure on 4x5 FILM depicts an infinite field of abstraction in a departure from Bobby’s typical long-exposure approach, instead using impossibly difficult contrast to create surreal texture.  A self portrait realized in the natural landscape, the piece is both chaotic and tranquil, busy and minimal, abstract and concrete.  The details are static; however in the context of the entire image, what seems like nonsense when viewed at close range crafts a beautiful narrative of reflected light on an infinite graphic field.

58 Roses | Installation on View Through Nov. 28th

Time is one of the great healers in the wake of tragedy, and while Las Vegas has come together beautifully in order to move forward, this process is not so easy for those directly affected by the shooting in early October, especially as we approach the holiday season.

58 Roses is an installation piece that will be on view in the gallery through November 28th.  While the state of these roses will change drastically in the coming weeks reminding us how fragile and fleeting the beauty of life is, we invite anyone who has been affected to share a memory or express your loss or sense of connection in the form of a new rose(s) on or around the original group of 58 as an active way of continuing to engage in the renewal of this installation’s vibrancy even as the original 58 fade from the color that once characterized them.

Bobby's Emergence Nears the End of Its Run

Captured with a  single exposure on a vintage 4x5 view camera 3200 feet above the Pacific atop the coastal range on a backpacking trail near Big Sur, California, Bobby's Emergence is nearing the end of its run with only 4 pieces remaining in the edition. This piece depicts a completely wild towering California Oak so remote that it has likely never been photographed before nor will it be again.

One of 10 pieces in Bobby's portfolio to be inducted into the prestigious Professional Photographers of America (PPA) Loan Collection-one of the industry's most elite photographic honors- perhaps no other image in Bobby's body of work represents his ability and willingness to depart from subject matter trends and find new hidden icons of his own.

Contact the gallery to reserve one of the final remaining pieces in this edition.

AUGUST 2017 | Joshua's Sunrise Earns Top Honor at PPA International Competition

The results from the 2017 Professional Photographers of America (PPA) International Competition are in and Bobby's newest release Joshua's Sunrise earned the top honor making the 2017 Loan Collection.  The piece captured in Palm Desert this past spring earned a score of 92 making it Bobby's second highest scoring work in the competition ever behind one of his early masterpieces, Cold Activated which earned a perfect score in the competition in 2013.

Joshua's Sunrise is on view as the centerpiece of his Downtown Summerlin Gallery and will exhibit with the PPA Loan Collection in Nashville, TN January 14-16, 2018.

August 2016 | BOBBY WINS GOLD | PPA International Photographic Competition

The BWG is honored to announce that Bobby has once again been awarded a Gold Medal by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) at the world's largest photographic competition.  With over 24,000 members from more than 50 countries, the PPA is the world's largest entity for professional photographers.  This marks an unprecedented 4 years straight on the medal podium for Bobby having outscored his Vegas contemporaries 3 out of the last 4 years in the PPA International, once again solidifying his place atop the most prominent names in fine art photography, and doing so with a body of work captured EXCLUSIVELY ON FILM.  Among his four entries this year were three new releases including the coveted Linear Antiquity with only 3 pieces remaining in the highly exclusive edition of just 25 photographic prints.

And while the industry's top critics continue to give Bobby's work the highest praise, a fine art purchase is not about awards or hype.  It is about a personal connection to a form of expression.  We invite you to enjoy his gallery and see for yourself why one of the youngest artists in the industry has become one of the most respected names in fine art photography.

Bobby Wheat Gallery Celebrates 5 Years

Join us Saturday, April 16th from 6-8 PM as we celebrate the BWG’s 5-year anniversary bringing light and inspiration into homes and offices around the world.  From Bobby’s oldest iconic works to the latest abstracts hand-printed with darkroom techniques dating back to the mid 1800s, the gallery will display more than a 10-year evolution of photographic art captured exclusively on film.  We will unveil new works from Europe and across the United States including the newest release Century Bloom depicting an extremely rare Mojave phenomenon captured at the hottest driest location on earth.  We look forward to celebrating with you!

At Age 33, Bobby Wheat Named "Master of Photography" by the Professional Photographers of America

2015 marks the most progressive  year in Bobby's body of work to date with another drastic shift under influences such as Jerry Uelsmann, Alfred Stieglitz, and Michael Kenna to a largely abstract style utilizing double film exposures and darkroom techniques dating back to the 1800's.

Bobby medaled at the PPA International Competition for an unprecedented 3rd straight year, this time with a silver medal, and at the age of 33, Bobby was awarded his highest honor to date.  Because of his competition scores the last 3 years, Bobby has become one of the world's youngest fine art photographers to receive the title "Master of Photography" from the world's most elite photography entity, the Professional Photographers of America.

With shoots this year alone in cities including Chicago, San Francisco, and Paris, as well as many other locations throughout the United States and Europe, Bobby continues to evolve with new techniques and original subject matter pushing the boundaries of vintage film photography to new heights while still in the infancy of his career.

Be Original | Live Inspired™

The Bobby Wheat Gallery has kicked off the fall season in fine form with 7 new stunning works on display from France and Switzerland including 4 new color images and 3 hand-printed pieces utilizing techniques dating back to the 1800's.  With hyper exclusive edition sizes and primal darkroom printing techniques dating back to photography's earliest roots, the Bobby Wheat Gallery continues to move forward with a truly authentic approach to fine art photography that Las Vegas has not seen before.  There has not been a public display of these types of photographic prints in Las Vegas since the Ansel Adams exhibit at Steve Wynn's Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art back in 2007.  Stop by the Downtown Summerlin gallery location to experience these stunning new works in person.

Summer Blues Nears the End of Its Run

Call it fate or destiny, or maybe just chance, but on an overcast summer evening over a half a decade ago, Bobby arrived on the sand beneath the Scripps Pier near La Jolla, California, and with an old 4x5 large-format film camera, captured what would soon become one of the most iconic images in the fine art photography world.

Summer Blues became the first release from Bobby as a professional, kick starting his career nearly overnight and at the same time, inspiring a plethora of other artists to flock to the location in hopes of capturing their own rendition of the icon—many whom have released up to 4 versions of the scene in their portfolios.   But with a 2-minute exposure on FILM on a beautifully silent evening in August, Bobby only needed one attempt to tell the story to perfection.  Though many artists have attempted the feat, Bobby’s Summer Blues is the only capture of this scene to ever make the PPA Loan Collection, one of the world’s highest photographic honors.

Now, 4 years after its release, the iconic image is nearing the end of its run with just a small portion of the edition left before it is sold out.  Bobby will never photograph the scene again.

Our motto here at the Bobby Wheat Gallery is "Inspiration is Everywhere", and we don't just mean in the beauty of the landscapes around the world.  Right now, a widespread food crisis in Somalia and the surrounding area is leaving tens of thousands dead and hundreds of thousands more on the brink of starvation.  We here at the BWG were extremely moved by the story of Amanda Lindhout and her Convoy for Hope, a project aimed at bringing food to the victims of what may end up being the greatest catastrophe of our time.  The BWG has decided to get involved by donating 20% of the profits during the month of August to the Convoy for Hope Project.  For more info, click the link above.  The only thing that could make your Bobby Wheat fine art photograph more beautiful is knowing that it saved lives when you acquired it.

I wanted to create a series of works to compliment the most exclusive pieces in my collection at a value attainable to all fans and collectors.  The Mosaic Edition celebrates the textures, colors, and patterns that are so striking in nature's often subtle and intricate beauty.  The images in the Mosaic Edition are unlimited in their production, thus available at a price point suitable to all fans and collectors.  Each Mosaic piece offers a unique glimpse into nature, individually captured in a 12 by 12 inch square- perfect as a stand-alone piece, or for creating a series or montage of images that can be moved around, mixed and matched, or collected gradually over time.  I love that the Mosaic Collection is so accessible to everyone, allowing me to share more of nature's magic with more fans.
